Love

When we look at the work of Jesus Christ, what is the first thing we think of?  Jesus came to pay for our sins.  Yes, that is the reason we have been told and that reason is very true.  Yet, why did Jesus come to pay for our sins?  For what reason did he leave the glory and splendor of heaven (voluntarily) and come to earth to die?  It was LOVE.  Love so deep and strong that if we fully grasped the measure of Christ’s love we would continually stand in awe.  Love is what motivated Jesus day by day as he walked the roads of Israel.  His love was such that His mission was to bring hope to hopeless, sight to the blind, and life to those which were dead.  Love was Jesus’ first and primary motivator.

When I take an honest look at my life I realize that I generally do not live in the house of love.  I spend my time in the house of law, judging my success or failure based upon my performance.  My happiness is not founded upon the grace and love of God, rather, in some way, I feel responsible to get things right with God by following the rules.  True, the rules are there for a reason, yet according to Corinthians 13 if do everything spiritual there is to do yet I lack love- I am nothing.

So, my question is- what is the point of it all IF I do not have the love of Christ revolutionizing my heart and life?  Not only do I feel spiritually dead (even when I’m living by the Book), but I have nothing to offer those I meet.  Can I minister to others when my life is lacking in the source of life itself?

My prayer is that God would give me a true understanding and revelation of the love of Christ. That He would grant a revelation not only for myself, but also the church.  I ask that my life would be transformed and overflow with the love of God for ever person I meet.  I pray that I learn of the meaning of true, self-less, and sacrificial love.  That I would love others regardless of their mistakes, and that mercy and compassion would become the standards of my life.  May I dwell in the life of Christ, knowing apart from the Vine I can do nothing.

Just so you’re not weirded out, I found your blog through the Rebelution. :) God’s Love is such an amazing thing…it is utterly awesome. By awesome, I do not mean cool or great or wonderful or any of the typical words we say. Awesome was the most fitting word to me because God’s love is truly AWE PROVOKING. His love has the power to enable us to love those who seem unloveable. It has the power to enable us to show Him to those around us. It has the power to cover our sin. WOW. THAT IS AWESOME. That He would choose to direct His LOVE in our direction, in the direction of worthless pieces of dirt (please don’t be offended, I group myself in that category, and in fact, we do come from dirt…) is truly awe provoking to me.

Hey Erik B.! I got to your blog via your comment on Cross-Eyed (don’t you comment on the Rebelution, too?). Anyway, I’m Home-Schooled, interested in music, writing, and photography. Interested as in, I do them. I think politics is really important, and want to get more involved in it. So…I just thought I’d comment! :)

C: Thank you for commenting. Yes, the love of God is… indescribable. Webster did not find words to describe the love of God. How could he? Is it possible for finite minds to put into words a love that is infinite beyond the planets, stars, and galaxies?

Camille: Yes, I used to be quite involved on the Rebelution site. My blog is linked to on the site. I’ve known Eric Novak for quite awhile so I run by his sites now and then to find out what’s going on. He is a good writer and I enjoy what he has to say. Thank you for coming by. I can see we have similar interests. I have rehearsal tonight matter of fact. I am playing guitar with a band for a Christian young adult gathering on Tuesday. It should be fun!

Erik, I found your blog through the Rebelution’s website and I read your post… and just today I was thinking about how big is the of Christ for us… and I was thinking that his love makes me love, you know… His love teaching me love.
and God showed me how I need to love people just when I was not feeling loved by anyone. The love of Jesus is bigger than we ever think, and we are loved by the author of love, and that’s amazing!!!
    God Bless you,
    Glaucia
(by the way.. I’m from Brazil, so english is not my first language… I’m still learning… sorry about any mistakes)

Good post, so true! I wish that I operated in God’s love all the time, but I don’t always. So I pray for love every day.
